GENUINE DELL SYSTEM FANS

Dell PowerEdge System Fans, Hot-Plug Cooling Fan Modules

Genuine Dell hot-plug system fans for PowerEdge rack servers — standard (STD), high-performance silver and gold (HPR/VHPR) modules matched to your CPU, drive and GPU thermal profile to prevent airflow faults, throttling and excessive noise.

PowerEdge cooling is graded: the wrong fan class, or mixing fan types, triggers thermal faults and noise. We supply the genuine Dell fan module for your chassis and configuration, confirm the class against your service tag, and can ship a single module or a matched full set for a GPU conversion.

Fan types we supply

Standard (STD) fans

Base airflow modules for standard CPU and drive configurations, as fitted from the factory to most rack servers.

HPR Silver fans

High-performance silver-grade fans for higher TDP CPUs and denser drive layouts; identified by the silver label.

HPR Gold / VHPR fans

Very-high-performance gold-grade fans required for the highest-wattage CPUs, full drive and GPU configurations.

1U dual fan modules

Dual-fan modules used by PowerEdge 1U chassis (R640/R650/R660/R670), supplied as a matched module set.

2U fan modules

Individual hot-plug fans for 2U rack chassis (R740/R750/R760/R770), up to six per system.

GPU conversion kits

Matched fan sets and shrouds for converting a chassis to full-length or high-power GPU configurations.

Typical applications

  • Replacing a failed hot-plug fan without downtime
  • Matching the correct fan class to a CPU or drive upgrade
  • Converting a chassis to a GPU configuration with a full fan set
  • Restoring normal acoustics after a fan-bearing fault

Frequently asked questions

What fan types do PowerEdge servers use?

PowerEdge rack servers use standard (STD), high-performance silver (HPR SLVR) and high-performance gold (HPR GOLD/VHPR) fans, selected by CPU TDP, drive layout, rear drives and GPUs.

Can I replace a PowerEdge fan while the server is running?

Yes on supported rack chassis. Hot-plug fan modules are designed for replacement without powering down, provided the matching Dell fan is fitted and airflow is restored promptly.

Can I mix standard and high-performance fans?

No. Dell does not support mixing STD, HPR Silver and HPR Gold fans in one system; a full matched set of the same class must be used.

How do I know which fan my server needs?

Send your model, service tag and configuration. Fan class depends on CPU TDP, drive and GPU layout; we confirm the exact module rather than supplying the wrong grade.

What is the difference between HPR silver and gold fans?

Gold (also called VHPR) provides the highest airflow for the highest-wattage CPUs and full GPU/drive configurations; silver covers high-but-not-maximum thermal loads.

Why is my server loud or reporting a fan fault?

A failed or wrong-class fan, or a fan bearing issue, can raise noise and trigger thermal warnings. We match the correct Dell module to clear the fault.

Do 1U and 2U PowerEdge use the same fans?

No. 1U chassis use dual fan modules (up to four sets) while 2U chassis use individual hot-plug fans (up to six); the modules are chassis specific.

Are fans needed for a GPU upgrade?

Often a full HPR Gold or Silver fan set and shroud are required for GPU configurations. We supply the matched set for the specific chassis and GPU.

Are the fans new or used?

We supply new genuine Dell fan modules. If a refurbished fan is requested or the only option, we state its condition and warranty clearly.

Can I buy a single fan or must I buy a set?

You can buy a single module to replace one failed fan; for a fan-class change or GPU conversion a full matched set is required.

Do rear or high-density drive bays change fan requirements?

Yes. Rear drives and dense front drive layouts can require a higher fan class or an additional fan; we confirm the requirement against your configuration.

How do I identify the fan on my server?

Use the service tag in Dell’s parts tool or read the Dell part number on the fan label. Send it to us and we quote the exact module or current revision.

What warranty covers system fans?

New genuine fans carry the Dell manufacturer warranty terms. We confirm coverage and coordinate replacement if a confirmed defect occurs.

How are fans shipped?

Fan modules are anti-static packed and can be shipped individually with tracking or consolidated with a server order in one shipment.
