LSI MegaRAID 9460-16i 4G

LSI MegaRAID 9460-16i 4G

The Broadcom/LSI MegaRAID 9460-16i is a 16-internal-port, 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA RAID controller for xFusion FusionServer systems. It runs on a PCIe 3.1 x8 host link and offers 4G of onboard DDR cache with flash-based cache protection. It is used to turn the server's internal drive bays into hardware RAID volumes.

Overview

The MegaRAID 9460-16i exposes up to 16 SAS/SATA lanes (12 Gb/s SAS, 6 Gb/s SATA) through 4× SFF-8643 mini-SAS HD internal. It is a SAS/SATA controller and does not manage native PCIe NVMe drives.

Supported RAID levels include 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60. Non-RAID (JBOD/passthrough) mode is available for software-defined storage and HBA-style deployments.

How to choose

The 4G cache is protected by a CacheVault flash module, so in-flight writes survive power loss without a battery. Size the port count to your backplane; the 'i' number is the maximum number of internal drive lanes.

Frequently asked questions

Which RAID levels are supported?

Hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60, plus JBOD/passthrough mode.

Does it support NVMe drives?

No, this is a SAS/SATA-only controller; use a 9500/9540/9560 card for native NVMe.

How much cache does it have?

4G of onboard cache, protected by CacheVault flash.

What happens to writes during a power cut?

Cached data is flushed to on-board flash and restored on reboot, with no battery to replace.

What is the host interface?

PCIe 3.1 x8.

How are the drives cabled?

4× SFF-8643 mini-SAS HD internal; match these to the server backplane or use the included cables.

Which FusionServer models is it compatible with?

9 models across the current range, including 1288H V5, 1288H V7, 2258 V7, 2288H V5, 2288H V6-16DIMM, 2288H V6-32DIMM. See the compatibility list below.

Is it a new part and what warranty applies?

Genuine xFusion RAID controller (P/N 02312SJG), supplied new/tested with a 1-year warranty.

Can it replace an older 93xx/94xx card?

It is a newer tri-mode generation; drives and RAID configs can usually be imported, but confirm firmware and re-verify the array before production.

8i or 16i – how do I choose?

The number is internal drive lanes. Pick the 8i for smaller backplanes and the 16i when you need up to 16 drives.

Do you quote for the card and for projects?

Yes – send the part number or your server model; we reply with pricing and lead time (no public list price).
