Key features

Fully symmetric scale-out

A distributed architecture adds nodes in a fully symmetric cluster, balancing performance and capacity automatically.

High-density 4U chassis

The 4U chassis holds up to 60 3.5-inch drives and provides up to 1,440 TB of raw capacity per chassis.

Multi-protocol access

NFS, SMB, POSIX, MPI-IO, HDFS and Amazon S3 are served from the same data set for HPC, analytics and backup workloads.

Kunpeng-powered nodes

Each node runs two Huawei Kunpeng 920 processors, up to 512 GB memory and palm-sized NVMe SSDs for caching.

Erasure coding

N+M erasure coding (M = 2, 3 or 4) protects data with automatic parallel reconstruction at up to 2 TB per hour.

Fast networking

10/25/100GE TCP/IP and RoCE, plus 100 Gbit/s EDR InfiniBand, support high-bandwidth and high-OPS clusters.

Typical use cases

High-performance computing

Dense, multi-protocol storage for HPC clusters using POSIX, MPI-IO and high-speed RoCE or InfiniBand.

Big-data analytics

HDFS and S3 access to large data repositories with NVMe cache for fast analytics.

Backup & archive

High-capacity 3.5-inch HDD storage with erasure coding, WORM and encryption for long-term data protection.

Dense scale-out storage for unstructured data

Unstructured data now drives most storage growth, and it demands a different design than traditional dual-controller arrays. The Pacific 9546 answers with a fully symmetric distributed architecture: nodes are added to a balanced cluster, capacity and performance grow together, and data is served through NFS, SMB, POSIX, MPI-IO, HDFS and S3 from the same data set.

Density is central to the design. A single 4U chassis holds up to 60 high-capacity 3.5-inch drives and provides as much as 1,440 TB of raw capacity, powered by two Kunpeng 920 processors, up to 512 GB memory and NVMe SSD cache per node. 10/25/100GE TCP/IP and RoCE, or 100 Gbit/s InfiniBand, provide the bandwidth these workloads need.

Resilience is built in rather than bolted on. N+M erasure coding protects data with less overhead than replication, and automatic parallel reconstruction reaches up to 2 TB per hour. Together with WORM, encryption, snapshots and the ability to tier with faster Pacific products, the 9546 gives HPC, analytics and backup teams a dense, economical scale-out platform.
