Quick answer: Dell’s 15th-generation 1U server built around two AMD EPYC 7002 (Rome) or 7003 (Milan) processors — up to 128 cores and 32 DDR4-3200 DIMMs in one rack unit, with as many as twelve NVMe drives. We supply it factory-sealed and unopened, with a direct 3-year warranty. Browse all AMD EPYC PowerEdge servers →

What Is the Dell PowerEdge R6525?

The R6525 is the dual-socket 1U member of Dell’s 15th-generation PowerEdge family for AMD EPYC. Two Rome or Milan sockets sit behind one 1U fascia, delivering 2U-class compute and memory at half the rack height, with PCIe Gen4 throughout.

It earns its place where rack units are counted as carefully as cores: dense VMware and Proxmox clusters, VDI estates, in-memory and analytical database nodes, HPC workers, and all-flash hyperconverged builds that value a short front-to-back air path over spinning-disk capacity.

The trade is deliberate — drive cages, accelerator thermal budget and riser volume are trimmed for density. Projects built on tiered storage, large GPUs or a stack of PCIe cards belong in the 2U R7525, and we say so during configuration.

Why a Dual-Socket 1U? Density, Bandwidth and Licensing Math

Start the decision at the rack. Fitted with two 64-core EPYC parts, the R6525 puts 128 cores in a single rack unit — density no single-socket 1U can approach. The 32 DDR4-3200 slots wrap both sockets, up to 4 TB with LRDIMMs, and the second socket brings its own memory channels instead of sharing one fabric. Per rack unit, a row of R6525 nodes carries roughly twice the threads and memory bandwidth of single-socket 1U machines — the reason it keeps appearing in dense VMware rows and bandwidth-sensitive HPC and database deployments.

Then the licensing math. For per-socket licensed software, two sockets in one 1U carry the same bill as two sockets across two chassis, but consume one rack unit, one pair of power feeds, one set of switch ports and one management identity — fewer cables, fewer firmware baselines, fewer devices to patch. The formula stops working for storage-heavy or accelerator-heavy workloads; a 1U cannot host rows of large disks or double-width GPUs without surrendering the density that defines it. For those builds, step up to 2U and reserve the R6525 for the densest dual-socket Rome/Milan node in the family.

Inside the 1U Chassis: Cooling, DIMM Channels and Rear Bays

Cooling two high-core EPYC sockets in 1U shapes three configuration rules we apply to every build.

DIMM layout first. The 32 slots sit in banks flanking both processors, with the air shroud directing a narrow front-to-back airstream across heatsinks and DIMM faces. With CPU options reaching 280 W, balanced population matters — fill both sockets’ banks symmetrically, keep DIMM ranks matched, and the fan wall holds a lower profile. Capacity runs to 2 TB on RDIMMs or 4 TB on LRDIMMs.

The rear bays have a specific job. The optional two 2.5-inch rear slots accept SAS, SATA or NVMe drives and typically host a mirrored boot pair or fast staging kept off the front cages. Both count toward the twelve-drive NVMe total, so a ten-front, two-rear all-flash build stays within specification.

Accelerators and controllers are bounded by the 1U envelope. Airflow and power support only 75 W single-width cards, up to two — the NVIDIA T4 class for inference, VDI and transcoding; double-width cards belong in the R7525. The R6525 predates the H755 and HBA355i generation, so the list runs through PERC H345, H745 and H840, HBA345 and the S150: H745 for cached RAID, H840 for external JBOD and drive shelves, H345 or HBA345 for vSAN/Ceph-style pass-through, and the S150 for SATA boot mirrors.

R6525 vs R7525, R7625 and Single-Socket Options

The R6525 occupies a precise intersection — 1U, two sockets, Rome and Milan. The neighboring models answer different equations:

  • R7525 — the same 15G EPYC platform in 2U, with more drive bays, serious GPU options and extra risers. The storage and accelerator sibling.
  • R7625 — the newer dual-socket 2U on DDR5 and PCIe Gen5, for fleets standardizing on the current memory and I/O generation.
  • R7515 — one socket in a 2U chassis, for per-core licensed software where a single high-core EPYC covers the workload at lower license cost.
  • R6515 — the 15G 1U single-socket answer, keeping the rack-unit footprint without the second socket and its channel count.

If the decision hinges on sockets for licensing alone, our single-socket EPYC briefing works through the trade-off. The family continues through the R7615 and current flagship R7725; compare the full range on the AMD EPYC model collection.

Condition, Testing and Warranty

Condition comes first: every R6525 we offer is factory-sealed New Old Stock — the carton stays factory-sealed, and the server has never been opened, racked or powered on. It is genuinely new inventory, identified honestly as NOS, not current-line production. Our NOS explainer sets out what the term covers.

Before dispatch, each build is assembled from its sealed chassis, BIOS and iDRAC firmware are baselined, and processors, DIMMs and drives are stress-tested and reconciled against the purchase order — revision, controller and PSU rating included. Each server ships with a written inspection report.

Warranty runs three years and is provided directly by Beijing Xinchuan Technology Co., Ltd., rather than resold from a third-party policy. Full terms are on the warranty page.
