Dell PowerEdge R470
1U single-socket rack server on Intel Xeon 6

The Dell PowerEdge R470 is the compact 1U entry point of Dell’s 17th-generation PowerEdge family. It takes a single Intel Xeon 6 processor — in either an efficiency-core (E-core, 6700E) or performance-core (P-core, 6700P) die — and pairs it with 16 DDR5-6400 slots and up to 18 Gen5 NVMe/E3.S devices. That makes it a dense, single-licensed node for virtualisation hosts, all-flash storage, container clusters and edge deployments where rack space and software licensing matter more than dual-socket scaling.
What the R470 is
It is a brand-new, single-socket 1U server built around the Intel Xeon 6 platform. Unlike older generations that offered one CPU architecture per socket, the R470 lets you choose the silicon that matches the workload: an E-core SKU with very high core counts for throughput-heavy, parallel jobs, or a P-core SKU with higher clock speed for latency-sensitive and per-core-licensed applications. Either way you get one socket, one software licence, and a short 1U chassis with no NUMA complexity.
E-core or P-core: choosing the right Xeon 6
Maximum cores for throughput
E-core SKUs scale to 144 cores on one socket and are the pick for dense virtualisation, containers, VDI, web/CDN fleets and parallel data jobs. On E-core platforms the memory ceiling is 1 TB (16×64 GB RDIMM).
Highest clocks for latency
P-core SKUs deliver higher per-core frequency and larger cache for databases, licensing-by-core software and latency-sensitive services. P-core configurations reach the full 4 TB memory ceiling using up to 256 GB RDIMMs.
Tell us the workload and we will quote the SKU that fits rather than overselling cores you will not use. If you simply want the fastest mainstream 1U dual-socket 17G platform, the PowerEdge R670 is the step up; the R470 is purpose-built for single-socket value.
Specifications at a glance
Specifications in detail
Processor
The single socket accepts Intel Xeon 6 E-core parts (6710E–6780E, up to 144 cores) or P-core parts (6710P–6780P, up to 96 cores with higher clock speeds). Because every core, memory channel and accelerator sits behind one socket, there is no cross-socket NUMA hop and only one per-socket software licence to buy — a direct saving on operating systems and enterprise applications that are licensed by the socket.
Memory
There are 16 DDR5 RDIMM slots running at up to 6400 MT/s with ECC registered memory; MRDIMM is not supported on this platform. E-core configurations top out at 1 TB (16×64 GB), while P-core configurations reach 4 TB using up to 256 GB modules. This split is important for buyers comparing published maximums: the 4 TB figure applies to P-core builds only.
Storage and NVMe
The front backplane supports up to four 3.5-inch drives (with the rear E3.S bays fitted), eight or ten 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drives, eight 2.5-inch NVMe drives, or eight/sixteen E3.S Gen5 NVMe devices. Two additional E3.S Gen5 bays at the rear bring the NVMe ceiling to 18. Internal PERC options are the entry H365i or the 8 GB cache H965i with hardware NVMe RAID; external H965e and HBA465e cover JBOD and shelf attachment, and a BOSS device handles dedicated OS boot.
I/O, GPU and power
Depending on riser choice the R470 provides up to four PCIe Gen5 x16 slots plus two OCP 3.0 connections, so it can carry networking, a storage adapter or up to four 75 W single-wide accelerators for inference and encode workloads. Redundant 800 W, 1100 W or 1500 W platinum/titanium PSUs are available, and iDRAC10 provides remote management, monitoring and zero-touch provisioning. It is worth noting that, because these are 75 W single-width cards, the R470 is suited to low-power accelerators rather than large double-wide GPUs.

Frequently asked questions
Is the PowerEdge R470 a single-socket server?
Yes. The R470 has one Intel Xeon 6 socket, which keeps per-socket software licensing to a minimum and removes NUMA complexity while still offering up to 144 cores.
What is the difference between R470 E-core and P-core?
E-core SKUs offer the highest core counts for throughput workloads and a 1 TB memory ceiling; P-core SKUs run at higher frequencies for latency-sensitive and per-core-licensed work and support up to 4 TB of memory.
How much memory does the R470 support?
It has 16 DDR5-6400 RDIMM slots. E-core configurations reach 1 TB (16×64 GB); P-core configurations reach 4 TB using up to 256 GB modules. MRDIMM is not supported.
How many NVMe drives can it take?
Up to 18 NVMe devices — sixteen E3.S Gen5 drives in front plus two E3.S Gen5 bays at the rear — depending on the backplane chosen.
Can the R470 take GPUs?
It supports up to four 75 W single-wide (single-slot) accelerators. It is not designed for large, double-wide, high-power GPUs; choose a larger platform such as the PowerEdge R770 for that.
What warranty is included?
Brand-new R470 servers include a 3-year warranty provided by Beijing Xinchuan Technology Co., Ltd. Full terms are on the warranty page.
Do you ship internationally and supply batches?
Yes. We export single units and batch orders worldwide with export documentation and freight arranged to the destination country. Share your quantity and delivery location for a landed-cost quote.
