Dell PowerEdge R7515
What Is the Dell PowerEdge R7515?
The R7515 puts one AMD EPYC package in a conventional 2U rack chassis. A single high-core EPYC scales to 64 cores with eight memory channels and PCIe Gen4 bandwidth, while the 2U body reserves its space for drives: the largest front-drive fleet of any single-socket server in the 15G AMD family, up to 24 NVMe.
The platform supports Rome (EPYC 7002) and Milan (EPYC 7003) CPUs at cTDP up to 240 W, 16 DDR4-3200 RDIMM or LRDIMM slots to 2 TB, and up to four 75 W single-width accelerators. It lands on shortlists for per-core databases, per-socket licensed virtualization and middleware, VDI hosts, backup repositories and branch sites — anywhere a one-socket license footprint matters and a second CPU would sit mostly idle.
The Per-Core Licensing Case for a Single High-Core EPYC
SQL Server is licensed per physical core, and many hypervisors, middleware and analytics platforms are still priced per occupied socket. On a dual-socket host, populating the second package — even with a modest core count — typically doubles the per-socket fee and enlarges the core pool you must license. The R7515 has exactly one socket, carrying up to 64 cores; a database needing 48 or 56 licensed cores runs on one license footprint instead of two.
The saving repeats below the software line: one CPU entitlement on maintenance, one DIMM population, fewer watts drawn and fewer turned into heat — entry builds start at a 495 W Bronze supply. Cabling, rack units and iDRAC administration stay on one node instead of an extra host bought mainly to hold a license.
Single socket is not universal. Move to dual socket beyond 64 cores, past 16 DIMMs or 2 TB of RAM, when you need the combined bandwidth of two EPYC packages, or more expansion than two PCIe Gen4 x16 plus two Gen3 slots. Our single-socket EPYC overview compares the one-socket models.

Storage-First 2U: Up to 24 Front NVMe in One Socket
The chassis ships in three front-drive personalities. The 8 × 3.5-inch layout is the capacity play: nearline SATA disks for backup repositories, media archives and cold object storage. The 24 × 2.5-inch layout is the all-flash play; fully populated with NVMe it becomes a dense hot-storage node for database files, VM datastores and software-defined storage. The 16 × 2.5-inch build splits the difference for mixed tiers.
Two engineering details matter before you specify a build. First, the R7515 has no rear drive bays; boot mirrors and special-purpose devices come out of the front bay budget, so lock slot allocation with us before assembly. Second, GPUs top out at four 75 W single-width accelerators in the T4 class for inference, transcoding and VDI — not double-width training cards — and the PSU must grow with accelerator count.
Storage control has four options. The H745 is cached hardware RAID for classic fault-tolerant arrays; the H345 covers hardware RAID without the cache tier; the HBA345 runs passthrough for ZFS and software-defined stacks; the onboard S150 handles basic SATA arrays. Power follows the build: 495 W Bronze for low-core SATA, 750 W mainstream, 1100 W once flash and accelerators fill the chassis, and 1600 W Platinum or Titanium for a 240 W cTDP CPU with 24 NVMe and four accelerators.
R7515 vs R6515, R7525 and the Newer R7615
- R6515 — the same single-socket EPYC idea in a 1U body with fewer drives, for compute-dense rows where storage lives on a SAN.
- R7525 — the dual-socket 2U sibling, when a workload needs two packages, their combined memory bandwidth and wider expansion.
- R7615 — the 16th-generation single-socket successor on DDR5 and PCIe Gen5, for projects that require a current platform and the longest remaining lifecycle.
- R7625 — the dual-socket 16G option when both sockets and DDR5 are required together.
- R7715 — our newest single-socket EPYC platform for buyers standardizing on the latest generation.

Condition, Testing and Warranty
Every R7515 in our stock is factory-sealed New Old Stock: a genuine new unit, sealed at the factory, unopened and never powered, held in controlled inventory and sold transparently as NOS rather than as current production. Read what New Old Stock means before ordering.
For configured orders our engineers integrate the specified CPU, memory, drives and controllers, baseline BIOS and iDRAC firmware, and run CPU, memory and storage stress tests. Chassis revision, backplane, controller and PSU rating are checked against the order, and the machine ships with an inspection report. Coverage is a full 3-year warranty direct from us; terms are on our warranty page.

Batch Orders, Configuration and Export
The R7515 is a repeat fleet platform for our export customers. Batch orders ship with identical CPU steppings, matched DIMM layouts, same-batch drives and standardized iDRAC firmware, so every node behaves the same on arrival. Servers are palletized with the documentation customs teams expect, and we routinely deliver into Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the CIS.
Send us core count, memory, drives, networking, quantity, destination and incoterm; we reply within one business day with a configured bill of materials, a firm channel price and a lead time. Larger batches benefit from a short call to lock steppings and firmware first.
Why Buy from Us?
- Engineered to your workload — we quote the exact CPU SKU, DIMM map, controller, backplane and PSU rating, never a generic listing.
- NOS only, three years covered — sealed, unopened, never-powered stock with a direct 3-year warranty and an inspection report on every build.
- Real stock, real photographs — machines leave our own warehouse, and your build is photographed before palletization.
- Batch-ready and export-experienced — matched revisions, palletized freight and export paperwork across four destination regions.
- Independent and multi-brand — one engineering-led B2B supplier across several server lines, so the recommendation follows your workload.
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is the Dell PowerEdge R7515?
Dell’s 15th-generation 2U single-socket rack server powered by one AMD EPYC 7002 (Rome) or 7003 (Milan) CPU, up to 64 cores and 240 W cTDP. It supports 16 DDR4-3200 DIMMs to 2 TB, up to 24 front NVMe drives, two PCIe Gen4 x16 slots plus two Gen3 slots, and up to four 75 W single-width GPUs.
What does factory-sealed New Old Stock mean for the R7515?
Genuine new inventory sealed at the factory, never opened and never powered, sold transparently as NOS rather than as current production — not a returned, reconditioned or remarketed machine. Every unit carries our full 3-year warranty. See the NOS explainer for the full definition.
Which workloads benefit most from single-socket licensing?
Per-core databases such as SQL Server, per-socket virtualization and middleware, VDI farms, storage and backup nodes, and ROBO sites — anywhere up to 64 cores in one licensed socket covers the load. Beyond 64 cores, 2 TB of RAM, dual-package bandwidth or extra slots, choose the R7525 or the newer R7625.
Can it really take 24 NVMe drives and four GPUs in one chassis?
Yes: up to 24 front 2.5-inch NVMe drives and up to four 75 W single-width accelerators, with no rear bays. A fully loaded build pairs with the 1100 W or 1600 W supply, confirmed against your configuration before assembly.
What warranty and testing are included?
A full 3-year warranty directly from us. Each build is assembled to order, BIOS and iDRAC firmware are baselined, and CPU, memory and storage undergo stress testing, followed by a written inspection report. Terms are on the warranty page.
Can you supply matched R7515 batches for a cluster?
Yes. Multi-unit orders ship with identical CPU steppings, matched DIMM layouts, same-batch drives and standardized iDRAC firmware, palletized for export with documentation. Give us the node count and target configuration and we reserve matched material.
What is the lead time, and how do I order?
Lead time depends on CPU SKU, memory, drives and quantity. Send your configuration, quantity, destination and incoterm through Request a Quote, WhatsApp or email; we reply within one business day with a configured build, a firm channel price and a confirmed lead time.
